Gay Hendricks: Conscious Relationships, Creativity, and Personal Possibility

Gay Hendricks is a psychologist, author, and teacher whose work explores relationships and personal development. He earned a doctorate in counseling psychology at Stanford and spent more than two decades as a professor at the University of Colorado before founding the Hendricks Institute.

With his wife and collaborator, Kathlyn Hendricks, he has written books including Conscious Loving. His other works include The Big Leap and Five Wishes. In The Big Leap, he examines what he calls the upper-limit problem: the patterns through which people may interrupt their own experiences of success, creativity, or well-being.

Hendricks connects his writing with practices of awareness, communication, and attention to bodily experience. His work encourages readers to investigate the activities that draw on their strengths and the habits that limit their participation in life. Relationships, in this perspective, become a setting for learning about responsibility, openness, and the capacity to grow together.
